NO MORE UNIVERSITY STRIKES UNDER MY ADMINISTRATION, DECLARES TINUBU.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has underscored his administration’s determination to prevent university strikes, asserting that all necessary measures will be taken. He highlighted the Federal Government’s willingness to establish collaboration with academic unions and prioritize dialogue before resorting to any strike actions.

 

Speaking at the 33rd convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Tinubu expressed optimism that the cooperation between unions and the Federal Government would contribute to the much-needed educational development in the country.

 

Tinubu, represented by Prof. King-David Terna Yawe, a former President of West Africa College of Surgeon, emphasized the importance of this synergy in fostering an atmosphere of peace and tranquility across all university campuses.

The President conveyed his administration’s dedication to addressing challenges within the education sector, with a focus on its repositioning. He urged university unions to collaborate with the government to facilitate development, promising motivational activities to enhance productivity and a reciprocal effort from universities to create conducive teaching and learning environments.

 

Tinubu stressed the significance of dialogue, patience, and positive engagements as preferable alternatives to strike actions. He cautioned against industrial disharmony, noting its disruptive impact on life, time wastage, and academic calendars.

 

Addressing the issue of student loans, Tinubu announced plans for an Act enabling indigent students in tertiary institutions to access interest-free loans, repayable at their convenience once gainfully employed. He reiterated a commitment to preventing students from dropping out due to an inability to pay school charges and assured that his government would fulfill its responsibilities to support educational institutions for optimal performance.
