The Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University Malete, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, tragically passed away on Wednesday night while watching the semi-finals between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing AFCON tournament. Nigeria emerged victorious with a 4-2 win on penalties after regulation and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sources close to Abdullahi, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that he had attended a sports center in the Sango area before experiencing discomfort. Despite feeling dizzy, Abdullahi watched the entire match, expressing his intention to return home and rest once the game concluded.

Upon reaching home, Abdullahi collapsed and was swiftly taken to a private hospital in Sango before being transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away before receiving medical attention.

Abdullahi was laid to rest on Thursday morning in accordance with Islamic rites. The Director of Information at the university, Dr. Saedat Aliyu, confirmed his death, although the exact cause remains undetermined by university authorities.

Expressing condolences, Dr. Aliyu remarked that Abdullahi had been in good health and spirits just the day before. A statement released by the university formally announced Abdullahi’s passing and detailed arrangements for his funeral, including Janazah prayers and burial at the Hausa Muslim cemetery in Ilorin.
