The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, expressed congratulations to Ahmadu Bello University for assuming the presidency of the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) for 2024.
Deeming it a well-deserved achievement. ABU’s selection as the 2024 IIOE Rotating Presidency Unit was announced during the IIOE Global Partners Summit held in Shenzhen, China, from December 7th to 9th, 2023.
Taking over from University Putra Malaysia (UPM), ABU is now tasked with collaborating closely with UNESCO-ICHEI and the IIOE secretariat to provide strategic guidance and support for the advancement of online education, particularly in Nigeria and Africa.
The Minister emphasized the importance of technology in tertiary education and pledged government support for initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching, research, and community service.
He also highlighted the significance of universities actively engaging with industries for research and practical training.
