ILORIN ELITES REQUESTS CHANGE OF NAME FOR UNILORIN

Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State has urged the federal government to rename the University of Ilorin to Sheikh Alimi University in honor of its founder, Sheikh Alimi ibn Solihu ibn Janta. The request was made by Alh Aliyu Otta-Uthman, the president of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), during the 58th national conference held at the Emir’s palace.

 

Otta-Uthman also called on the Kwara State government to display the Emir of Ilorin’s portrait in government offices and advocated for the establishment of Kwara State University of Education within Ilorin. Additionally, he proposed the creation of Kwara State University of Science and Technology to foster technological and economic development.

Addressing the issue of security, Otta-Uthman emphasized the need for increased budgetary allocation to agriculture to combat unemployment, stating, enabling environments for farmers will draw the attention of the youth away from social vices.

 

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq pledged to renew and expand Ilorin to prevent it from becoming a slum, urging IEDPU and the people of Ilorin Emirate to support government policies. The Emir of Ilorin commended the governor’s commitment to development and applauded women’s inclusion in his administration.
