JAMB ISSUES NOTICE ON 2023 DIRECT ENTRY (DE) REGISTRATION (ALIGNMENT OF DATA) AND 2024 REGISTRATION (AUTHENTICATION OF DATA)
This advisory is issued to guide stakeholders on the alignment of data for the 2023 already registered candidates and the 2024 pre-registration authentication of data.
1.0 PREAMBLE
The Board has been receiving series of complaints from institutions on candidates on approving admissions of candidates with forged or faked A’ level certificates. The institutions had adopted the policy of scrutinizing the admitted candidates to identify those culpable.
One such exercise was the experience of Bayero University, Kano, where results of 148 admitted students were verified out of which 142 were found to be forged or faked.
As a result of this, the Board had to, with the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education, act appropriately and establish the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) which has the mandate to verify all A’ level certificates used in the DE application before admission is considered.
2.0 THE 2023 REGISTRATION
The Board had on 23rd February 2023, issued an advisory to guide the registration of candidates seeking admission through Direct entry in the 2023/2024 academic session.
That was basically to address the issue of candidates who intended to use unacceptable or forged “A” level certificates/qualifications to secure admission.
All the DE registration, as of 2022/2023 academic session, is restricted to JAMB-PRCs (offices).
During the 2023 registration, ………… candidates applied for the DE. Out of this number,1,957 have so far been disclaimed by institutions/ examination bodies.
Recent analysis from the verification exercises conducted by the Nigeria Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) has revealed the following:
i. Discrepancies in Names (between what is in A/level certificate presented by candidates and JAMB records)
ii. Discrepancies in Qualification (between what is in A/level certificate presented by candidates and data supplied by the awarding bodies)
iii. Discrepancies in Subjects (between what is in A/level certificate presented by candidates and data supplied by the awarding bodies)
iv. Discrepancies in Grades (between what is in A/level certificate presented by candidates and data supplied by the awarding bodies)
v. Discrepancies in Examination numbers and years of graduation (between what is in A/level certificate presented by candidates and data supplied by the awarding bodies)
Consequently, the Board introduced new measures, through the 3RD PARTY A-LEVEL DATA ALIGNMENT PLATFORM, to align the data supplied by the candidate with the data on JAMB records and the awarding institutions before DE registration.
3.0 THE 2024 REGISTRATION
The candidate is one who either applies for DE or converts from UTME to DE
3.1 Awaiting result candidates
Candidate awaiting result is allowed to register for DE with only JUPEB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE or IJMB.
3.2 Pre-De Registration Alignment
Going by the experiences of the 2023 DE registration exercise, the Board felt the need to introduce the pre-registration checks and alignment of data (where necessary). This provision enables the system to authenticate the details supplied by a prospective candidate at the point of registration with what has been preloaded on the system, as supplied by the awarding bodies.
In a case where a candidate’s data (name, result/grade, subjects, qualification) does not align with the records with JAMB, an alignment must be done on the provided 3rd PARTY A-LEVEL DATA ALIGNMENT PLATFORM, before proceeding with the DE registration with JAMB
4.0 ALIGNMENT OF DATA
The Board introduced new measures, through the 3RD PARTY A-LEVEL DATA ALIGNMENT PLATFORM, to align the data supplied by the candidate with the data with JAMB and the awarding institutions before completion of DE registration. The earlier discrepancies identified can be aligned through the following processes:
a. Candidate Usage Description:
This step-by-step procedure outlines how a candidate can apply for alignment of data with what is with JAMB (through registration by candidates or supplied to NIPEDS, by the
awarding institutions
Step i. Visit NIPEDS A/level Home Page: Open the web browser and go to nipeds.jamb.gov.ng.
Step ii. Click on correction of data Application: Navigate to the alignment of data section on the homepage and click on the “Visit Portal” button.
Step iii. Enter JAMB Registration Number and Email: On the new page, enter the JAMB registration number and a valid email address (same as the one with JAMB) in the provided fields.
Step iv. Confirm alignment of data:
i. For applications with IJMB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE or JUPEB qualification, check the displayed names on the screen.
II. Confirm that you want to align the data on the qualification to match with that of the JAMB DE application.
iii. If you applied for DE using other qualifications such as HND, OND, etc., enter the names exactly as shown on the certificate and then confirm that you want to align the entered data with the ones in your JAMB DE application.
Step v. Make Payment: Once the candidate confirms the data alignment, he/she then proceeds to make a payment to finalize the process
Step vi. Payment Confirmation: the candidate will receive an email for the payment made which serves as a confirmation of the successful application. Successful application does not automatically mean approval.
b. Examination Body Usage Description:
Below step-by-step procedure outlines how examination bodies can recommend an alignment of data application processed by a candidate:-
i. Visit NIPEDS Home Page: Open the web browser and go to nipeds.jamb.gov.ng.
ii. Click on Correction of Data Application: Navigate to the examination bodies portal section on the homepage and click on the “Visit Portal” button.

This completes the recommendation process.
4.1 JAMB Approval
It is important to note the following actions that take place once the approval process is completed:
a. Effecting the data alignment: Once the application has been approved, the system automatically updates the data on its databank at a stipulated time.
b. Updating the candidate verification status: Once the data alignment has been effected, the system automatically carries a re-verification of the candidate’s updated and effects their status.
c. Updating E-facility: The update effected is transmitted to e-Facility notifying the system of this change in the verification status.
4.2 Payments for Services
4.2.1 There would be a payment for the services to be rendered. Payment can be made to……………..using ATM cards or other methods displayed at the time of payment, including USSD payment and bank transfer.
The table contains the approved fees for aligning candidate’s data with JAMB records

It is of note that all the activities identified in paragraph 4.2 take place on the METIS/NIPEDS platforms and NOT on the JAMB platform
5.0 DE CANDIDATES VERIFICATION FLOW
The following itemizes the flow by which a candidate is verified by NIPEDS:
a. The candidate data are sent to NIPEDS for verification.
b. Upon receiving the data:
i. For JUPEB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE (post-2018) or IJMB certificates,
the candidate data is compared to the databank on NIPEDS for such qualifications. The system checks with the candidate’s number as supplied by the respective examination body. The system verifies that there is alignment with name (re-arrangement of name is allowed), qualification, subject(s) and result.
ii. For non JUPEB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE or IJMB, NIPEDS compiles the list of candidates for each Awarding Institution and forwards it through CAPSMAIL to the institution to confirm the genuineness of the certificates.
c. Upon receipt of the verification
i. For JUPEB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE or IJMB, NIPEDS sends an update to eFacility once the alignment is verified and confirmed. JAMB then clears the recommendations from the institutions
ii. For non JUPEB, NABTEB, CAMBRIDGE or IJMB, once NIPEDS receives an update from the Awarding Institutions through CAPSMAIL, it stores the verified candidates and sends an update to e-Facility for onward transmission to JAMB for clearance and possible admission.
If the institution is compliant (credibility of prompt response to verification request), the candidate is allowed to complete his/her DE registration without waiting for verification of the result from the awarding institution.
Be guided, please.
