KWASU BEGINS COMBINED CONVOCATION CEREMONY, UNVEILS 24 NEW ACCREDITED COURSES(DETAILS)

 

In a milestone event held at the Muhammadu Buhari Main Library, Kwara State University (KWASU) commenced its 10th and 11th combined convocation ceremony with Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh addressing the press.

Despite challenges in the Nigerian University system and broader societal issues, KWASU has stood resilient, graduating 16,315 students in its 10th and 11th convocation. The institution continues to be a beacon of academic stability, producing graduates equipped for a rapidly changing world.

 

The convocation week promises a series of engaging activities, including an exhibition, a KWASU Book Fair, a staff football match, a captivating play, and a thought- provoking lecture by JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede. Notably, three TETFund infrastructure projects will be commissioned, showcasing KWASU’s commitment to state-of-the-art facilities.

Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh highlighted KWASU’s academic strides, revealing the introduction of 24 new programs, including MBBS Medicine and Surgery and B.Eng. Food Engineering. The institution maintains a robust academic calendar and emphasizes science and technology while fostering collaborations with professional bodies.

KWASU’s commitment to research shines through, with scholars winning international grants and driving advancements in fields like environmental conservation and artificial intelligence. The institution aims to recognize and celebrate researchers through initiatives like the Commercialization of Research Output (CROP) competition.

 

Despite limited resources, KWASU has transformed its campus with state-of-the-art structures, solar farms, and collaborations with institutions like FIRS, CBN, and more. The institution’s focus on infrastructure extends to multi- campus development in Osi and Ilesha-Baruba, reflecting a commitment to providing a conducive learning environment.

KWASU’s Green Campus Initiative demonstrates a commitment to sustainable development goals, including clean energy, waste reduction, and environmental responsibility. Noteworthy achievements include converting a petrol engine bus to run on electricity and a plastic recycling plant, showcasing the institution’s dedication to environmental stewardship.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor addressed challenges such as road conditions, land encroachment, and on-campus accommodation. He urged the Kwara State Government to intervene and emphasized the importance of partnerships to enhance the institution’s educational service delivery.

 

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, appreciated the Executive Governor of Kwara State Mallam Abdul Rahman Abdul Razaq for his continuous support for the institution, expressed gratitude to the press for their continued interest in KWASU.
