UNIPORT BANS H.O.C’s/CLASS

The University of Port-hacourt’s senate, had placed a ban on the existing of Course Representative/Class Governor/H.O.C, sales of multiples Handouts/Materials by Lecturers to students and other related improper activities.

This was gathered from the resolution of a crucial meeting of the committee of Provost and Deans held few days ago, Presided by the 9th Vice-chancellor, Prof Owunari Abraham Georgewill.

During the meeting, major decisions were taken following the series of complaints by parents students.

The University’s senate abolished the practice of separating male and female students in the examination halls or marking ‘M’ for male or ‘F’ for female on exam script as it amounted to gender discrimination which is against the Fundamental Human Rights and the Law.

“The practice of students putting on uniform is dehumanizing and is hereby abolished.” He added.

The committee further stated that the Direct sale of books to students by lecturers or through course Reps or any other student is abolished with immediate effect.

Sequel to the above The practice of listing the name and Matriculation numbers of students who purchase books is banned, as well.

The committee reiterated that All books will be sold in designated bookshops as prescribed by the University.

Only faculty appointed Book Review committees are authorized to fix the price of books in the faculty.

In the same vein, only the Faculty appointed Book Review committees are to evaluate books presented by lecturers to ensure that they contain what is in the course outline and recommend such for sale. This is to curb frivolous expenditure incurred by students of the University.

The University Senate rounded off the meeting by adding that on no account should more than one book be sold in any particular course.

“Whoever goes against the aforementioned decision will be strictly sanctioned and prosecuted.” The memorandum added.
