WHAT NEXT AFTER UTME? Steps To Admission Success. Questions Every UTME Candidate Should Ask
Is post-UTME exam Difficult? Here is all you need to know about the difference between post-UTME exam and Online Screening in 2024.
Firstly, congratulations on your success in your just concluded UTME (JAMB) examination!
Your achievement marks a significant milestone in your academic journey.
After battling with Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, UTME, the next question is how to gain admission to your preferred institution of choice. But do you know, you still have to pass through another stage after your Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME before you can be considered for admission to your preferred institution of choice.
That’s what led us to discuss on how some Nigeria Universities process their admission.
Before you can be considered for admission to any University in Nigeria, you have to firstly meet up the institution uniform cut off mark and successfully excel in their POST UTME Examination or Online Screening, depends on which method your choice of institution go for. But note, your choice of institution will only go for one method, be it POST UTME Examination or Online Screening, they can’t go for both.
Now, let talk about the two methods of giving admission, POST UTME and Online Screening.
POST UTME: Post UTME is an examination conducted by various universities or polytechnics after the main JAMB UTME exam to aid in candidates’ selection for admission.
The examination can be Computer Based Test (CBT) and can be done in any location or within the school premises depends on your choice of institution.
Most schools Post UTME is 30%. Post-UTME score, JAMB score, and O’level results will be used for selection for Admission. Why
ONLINE SCREENING: Online screening typically involves online registration without a written exam like Post UTME examination.
Selection during screening is based on factors such as your O’level results, JAMB score, A’level, etc.
In most institutions, your O’level results carry 50% and JAMB result is 50%. Some schools differ in any case.
Choosing Between School with Online Screening and Post-UTME Exams
A lot of questions surface from this section in particular, because this where a lot of students got confused on which institution should they go for based and which of the method will favour them most.
Based on experiences, feedbacks and testimonies gotten from candidates that have experienced the two methods, read the following:
* Don’t apply to an institution that only conducts online screening if you don’t have a good O’level result.
* Low JAMB score? Apply to a school that conducts post-UTME exams; you can study to score high and increase your chances of admission.
* We have seen a candidate who scored 210 in JAMB and ended up scoring 350 in UNICAL Post UTME out of 400, and he was admitted to study Law.
* If your JAMB score is good enough and you have good O’level and A’level results, then apply to a school that conducts online screening.
* No guarantee scoring high in JAMB will ensure a high post-UTME score.
Now, the ball is in your court, you have to decide yourself based on what have discussed above.
