President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 560 individuals to the governing councils and boards of various Federal Government-owned tertiary institutions. This reconstitution aims to enhance the management and governance of Nigeria’s higher education sector.
According to a statement released on Friday by Nnamdi Mbaeri, the Permanent Secretary for General Services in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, this decision is part of the administration’s commitment to strengthening tertiary institutions across the country.
The statement emphasized, “President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the reformation of the Governing Councils and Boards of Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education to promote effective administration nationwide.”
Among the notable appointments are::
1.University of Ibadan: Chief Bisi Akande has been appointed as Chairman of the governing council, with Alexander Ajipe, Nelson Alapa, Ifeoma Nwankwo, and Prof. Emmanuel Alo serving as members.
2.University of Lagos: Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) will serve as Chairman of the council, alongside Bello Kumo, Prof. Idowu Mark, Niyi Akande, and Bola Njoku.
3.National Open University: Isa Yuguda has been named Chairman, with Goddy Etta, Yomi Balogun, Deborah Apah, and Hingah Biem as council members.
4.Obafemi Awolowo University: Siyan Oyeweso will lead the council, with Edward Sarki, Joseph Abaagu, Wahaab Owokoniran, and Abubakar Kachaalla as members.
Appointments include Adebayo Shittu as Chairperson for the David Umahi University of Medicine in Ebonyi State, Muiz Banire for the Federal University of Transportation in Katsina State, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa for the Federal Polytechnic in Ugep, Cross River State, among others.
These appointments are intended to bring renewed focus and leadership to these institutions, ensuring they are well-positioned to meet the educational needs of the nation.
